Earlier this Month the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission launched massive voter registration across all the 47 counties in Kenya. Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission,is a body that is incharge of the elections within the nation and also helps in voter registration.
Days after the launch of voters registration, they number of people turning up for the process is quite worrying. Most of the unregistered people have not turned out for the exercise across all the nation. This is worrying for those vying for some seats ahead of 2022 general elections.
According to the statistics given by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission it shows that people have not yet turned out for the exercise. From the I.E.B.C expectations no county has acquired a percentage of more than 10% of voters expected to register. The Counties with highest turn out is at 8% of the total expected population.
Counties within Mt Kenya region have not turned up well for voter registration exercise. Counties like; Laikipia, Nyeri, Kiambu, Nyandarua, Murang'a, Kirinyaga and Nairobi, their voters registration turn out is very low. Some counties low turn out as 1% of the total expectations.
This is worrying to the leaders moreso those vying for presidency and depends heavily on those regions. If the turn out continues to be as low as it is evidently seen, then something needs to be considered. The voter registration process is done to anyone who has not registered as a voter.
The counties turn up rank is as follows; Samburu takes the lead with 8% voter registration turn out, while Kiambu County has the lowest turn out. Other counties from Mt Kenya region also ranks last from the exercise. Nyandarua and Nyeri counties also have 1% of the total expected voters turn out. What might be wrong within Mt. Kenya region? Or people are waiting for last minute rush?
