The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission is mandated by the Constitution to organize elections in Kenya amongst other duties. In the process, IEBC should ensure that elections have been conducted in a transparent manner which will give citizens an opportunity to exercise their democratic right.
The demise of Bonchari member of parliament granted the electorates an opportunity to once again choose another leader who will represent the interest in the parliament. The elections is just around the corner but the candidates have raised concern about the process.
The candidates battling for the seat have threatened to boycott the minipoll if the IEBC recruits elections officials from outside the constituency. They have urged the Returning Officer Mr.Benson Ambuko to recruit presiding officers and their deputies from the area.
Progressive party of Kenya candidate Charles Mogaka said they will not allow the commission to engage officers from other constituency and yet the area has qualified and competent people who can be hired to do the work.
The elections has attracted competition from PPK party, ODM and Jubilee party. The late member of parliament was a member of PPK party.
