Siaya county governor James Aggrey Orengo visited the capital city, Nairobi, to meet a powerful member of president William Ruto's Kenya Kwanza administration.

In a message posted on social media, the first time county governor indicated that he met with ministry of agriculture cabinet secretary Mithika Linturi in Nairobi today.

Top on the agenda was the Kshs 4 billion rice production project that is expected to benefit his county, just like several other devolved units. He says that he was keen to see the project extended to Siaya county.

"I held a meeting with senior staff of the Ministry of Agriculture led by the Cabinet Secretary Mithika Linturi in Nairobi where the national government announced a Shs 4 billion rice production programme with Siaya county earmarked among the counties to benefit from it," he said on social media.

Orengo's meeting with the agriculture cabinet secretary comes at a time when opposition county chiefs have been keen to establish cordial relationships with the national government for the benefit of their counties.
