Today on 1st, November, 2021 CS Fred Matiang’i defended himself with his counterpart CS Joe Mucheru over their involvement in IEBC. CS Matiang’i stated that their role is to ensure that the commission carries its duties as expected by the government and by all Kenyans. He said that their plan is to make sure that they set the right environment for free and fair elections and not to work against any presidential candidate as claimed by Ruto and his allies.
The powerful CS also also told that they should work hard to priotize the security and safety of women aspirants as they are subject to harassment and intimidations from their male counterparts. He also cleared the air on plans of a section of MPs who had called for his resignation. Most of these lawmakers were allied to Ruto. He told them that the issue is personal and he can never be bothered by them.
He said that the Kenya's democracy is very mature and this will be witnessed in 2022. However, UDA has made a polite reminder to him. The party claimed that Matiang’i and PS Kibicho must know that power is seasonal that can be lost at any time.
