President Ruto's letter to parliament has been Challenged in court for he is seeking to utilize parliament to amend what may have been done through a referendum. Kenya's law society has publicly urged the president to follow the law and let the constitution govern.
According to the lawyers, the president is attempting to mutilate the constitution in his recent attempts to establish the office of the official opposition. The president of the Kenya Law Society, Eric Theuri, has encouraged the president to study the Supreme Court judgement on the building bridges initiative.
