In the following days, Kenyans will have the chance to vote on who will lead the country once Uhuru's term ends. After months of heightened political activity, this has finally occurred.
Every citizen of the country was a participant in and observer of the many political activities that took place across the country as candidates solicited votes. The IEBC is expected to release the official results within the next several hours.
Regardless of who wins the presidency, the race to control the House of Representatives is heating up, and it looks like neither side will emerge victorious. This is encouraging news.
Please remember that this will be the first hung parliament since the Constitution of 2010 took effect. With 162 elected members of parliament, Azimio la Umoja is currently in the lead, while Kenya Kwanza trails in second place with 159 MP. Although Azimio is now in the lead, neither side will have an absolute majority since the largest individual party, Kenya Kwanza will ensure that UDA receives the majority of the 12 nominated MPs it is entitled to as a result of being the largest party. This will result in Kenya Kwanza neutralizing any benefit Azimio may have had.
