The DP said that himself and the other presidential aspirants can only go around the country campaigning but cannot decide who among them will lead the country after President Uhuru Kenyatta.
This, he stated, God will do through the people who hold the votes, suggesting that he will help them with the decision of identifying the best person for Kenya.
“And even as we canvass across the country, we must know that ultimately God will decide the next leadership of this country through the prayers, the votes and the support of the people of Kenya,” he said as is quoted by the People Daily.
He asked politicians to accept the outcome when the time comes and not plunge the country into unrest by rejecting the decision made by Kenyans.
Ruto stressed on the need for a united Kenya even after the election, further calling upon leaders and politicians to embrace peaceful campaigns and tolerate others while campaigning in their turfs.
“We want a united nation. We want a united Kenya and that is the philosophy behind us working together,” said the DP.
But the "God will decide the next President" remark comes from a man who has been very confident of a win, and has even been bragging that he will beat ODM boss Raila Odinga early in the morning.
Ruto is taking his first shot at the seat, with his main opponent; Raila, making his fifth attempt to clinch it.
