The Matungu constituency seat was declared vacant after the death of the late Mp Justus Murunga. The MP died at the St Mary’s Mission Hospital in Mumias and was reported to have been ailing and battling diabetes. Murunga had just been released from The Agha Khan hospital in Kisumu before coming back home and was rushed to the mission hospital on Saturday evening, where he died minutes after treatment.
Political parties endorsed candidates for the seat and the United Democratic Alliance Party was not left behind. A few hours ago, one of the independent candidates who was cleared for the seat has stepped down to support the UDA candidate, Alex Lanya. Mr. Kongoti is the first candidate who has withdrawn from the contest in favor of Lanya. This will be a very big plus for Ruto and his supporters. It is also an opportunity. If UDA wins the by-elections, then it will have gained popularity in the country because it's a new party.
Lanya will be contesting for this seat with ANC candidate, David Were, among other candidates.
Putting on the consideration that ANC is the Western region party led by Musalia, do you think UDA will win?
