UDA's Win As Court Gives Greenlight To Their Gubernatorial Candidate

The Kenyan electoral body, IEBC, sets the minimal qualifications for Governor and President seats and their deputies. According to the presidential returning officer Mr. Chebukati, both governor and president must have degree certificates from recognised Universities. In addition, their deputies must also possess degree certificate.

In the last few weeks after IEBC clearance, many cases have been filed in court to bar some candidates from gazetted by the IEBC. Among them were Aisha Jumwa from Kilifi, Senator Sakaja, Cleophas Malala, Mithika Linturi from Meru among others.

However, today, the court has thrown out the case filed that bars top UDA gubernatorial candidate in Kilifi Hon. Aisha Jumwa. The high court in Malindi has declined to hear the case that seeks to bar the Malindi Member of Parliament Ms. Jumwa.

“I decline to give interim orders and direct that the file be transferred to Malindi and placed before Malindi duty judge at 9 o’clock tomorrow,” Justice Osewe said.
