Council of Governors CEO Mrs. Mary Mwiti has praised Governor Kiraitu Murungi and his administration for initiating and rolling out a robust program. The Meru Twaweza Program under the leadership of the County First Lady Priscilla Murungi.
With the aim of fostering participation and raising visibility for the women of the County, in the political, economic, social and cultural development of the County.
Lauding Governor Kiraitu as an initiative-oriented leader who never tires from seeking new partnerships and linkages for development of Meru, CEO Mwiti noted the Governor visited CoG headquarters in Nairobi.
He will seek opportunities available to benefit the people of Meru, which is how the Council learnt about Twaweza Program and evaluated it against other initiatives from across the County and it emerged top, qualifying for support.
She thanked Madam Murungi and the County Government for setting aside finances to lend to women groups, and also providing structure for women to organize into groups which will enable them receive further empowerment from national government agencies and other development partners.
Speaking at the event, Madam Murungi said the initiative has been successful because of well organized government structures under capable leadership of Governor Kiraitu and his Deputy Titus Ntuchiu.
Madam Murungi added that the officers of the County Government in different department, have all received training to be able to interact with and recruit women into the program from the grassroots at the Ward level, to ensure no women of Meru are left behind.
She thanked CEO Mwiti for pledging to support the program and promised to work closely with CoG to ensure the women across the County are empowered.
