Since the launch of Building Bridges Initiative report at the Bomas of Kenya,it has been faced with several draw backs as groups emerged with different demands that should be met in order to be supported.
Unfortunately, the Building Bridges Initiative proponents who are president Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga closed doors for more amendments and are pushing for collection of 1Million signatures that will pave way for a referendum.
According to the Star,The National Cohesion and Integration Commission has cautioned president Uhuru Kenyatta and his handshake partner Raila Odinga against bulldozing their way in a referendum without consensus.According to the Star,NCIC chairman Dr Samuel Kobia the aim of the Building Bridges Initiative was to unite Kenyans but the move of the BBI proponents to have a contested referendum will render the document miss its cardinal objective.
Mr Kobia said the door for more views to amend the document should be opened for more debates as this will make all Kenyans feel included hence uniting the country.
This is a big blow to the Building Bridges Initiative since its proponents have already closed the door and are pushing for collection of signatures something which will leave the country divided.
