According to the final results from Ms. Karua's polling station, Deputy President William Ruto, who is running for the presidency on the UDA ticket, pulled off an upset, with Karua receiving less than one-third of the votes.
On Tuesday morning, there was a moment of concern when Ms. Karua arrived at the polling station but her name was not recognized by the Kiems system.
At 6:10 a.m., she finally received her ballots and walked to the voting booth.After casting her ballot, Ms. Karua urged Kenyans to vote en masse for the leaders they want to govern them for the next five years.
She had pledged to rouse the Mt Kenya region in support of the Azimio candidate in the contest to build the next government.
