A senior government official who was recently recommended by legislators for a state job is in trouble for allegedly lying about his wealth. When he met the vetting panel in parliament, the state officer is said to have told them that he was worth hundreds of millions of shillings in assets and bank savings.
However, details have emerged that show otherwise. It is alleged that during the time when he went for vetting, he was facing serious financial constraints that saw him sell some of his assets.

Detectives are now said to be trying to find out if the man deliberately overstated his worth so as to give him room to steal from the public coffers. The man is likely to have done so with the intention of looting public funds, so that by the time he leaves office, it would not be easy to detect whether he had accumulated public resources for his own benefit.
