In order to highlight his long-standing ties to the area, President William Ruto attended a Sunday service at Karigu-Ini Primary School in Kandara Constituency, Murang'a County.
In the recently assembled inner circle, the Kandara Constituency is the only constituency to have received two Cabinet Secretaries.
Former Kandara Member of Parliament Alice Wahome has been chosen by the president to lead the water and sanitation docket, and Prof. Njuguna Ndung'u has been chosen to lead the National Treasury.
Wahome and Ndung'u are neighbors in the Kandara Consituency's Muruka and Ruchu wards, respectively.
Ruto's connection to the Kandara Constituency and the larger Murang'a County, however, extends beyond the two appointments and into the run-up to the election.
Alice Wahome was a vocal supporter of Ruto during the lead-up to the August 9 elections in the Mount Kenya region, where she pledged to persuade every voter to vote for the then Deputy President.
One of the Mount Kenya counties, Murang'a County, voted resoundingly in favor of William Ruto on August 9. 81% of the county's total votes were cast in favor of Ruto, which was supported by more than 340,000 voters.
Since his time as a Senator for the county of Murang'a and Senate Majority Chief Whip in the 12th Parliament, Ruto has maintained close ties with Irungu Kang'ata, the current governor of Murang'a County.
After his letter to the then-President Uhuru Kenyatta requesting that Tangatanga MPs support BBI was leaked to the public in January 2021, Kang'ata was fired as the Senate Majority Whip.
Ndindi Nyoro, who hails from the sizable Murang'a County, is another close ally of Ruto's. One of President Ruto's closest allies in Mount Kenya is thought to be the current Kiharu Member of Parliament
