Powerful Nairobi Politician Facing Moment Of Truth After Dumping Uhuru For Ruto

Before he was elected as Nairobi County Assembly Speaker, Benson Mutura had spent some few years in the political cold. But today, by virtue of his position in city politics, he is one of the most influential figures in Nairobi politics.

In 2013, following the exit of Mike Sonko from Makadara politics, Mutura won the bitterly contested election on a TNA party ticket, beating his closest rival, George Aladwa of ODM.

During the 2017 general election, Mutura faced a rejuvenated former Nairobi Mayor. He was trounced by the ODM candidate. It took four years for him to return to the political limelight when he was elected as Nairobi County Assembly Speaker.

Now, Mutura is in the race to reclaim his old seat, the Makadara MP seat on Deputy President William Ruto's UDA party ticket.

Mutura's bid for the seat he once held will be no walk in the walk in the park as he will have to Battle it out with the incumbent, Aladwa, who is enjoying the backing of President Uhuru Kenyatta's Jubilee Party.

For the man who has been at the heart of his political journey, Mutura's decision to ditch President Kenyatta for Dr Ruto will no doubt prove suicidal.
