Nairobi county is a unique county as it boasts of being the country's capital city. The county is also home to who is who in the country including the head of state. Nairobi County is the heart beat of the Country. In some BBI recommendations, there are some proposals to give it a special status. Politics in the county are never local due to dynamics that are at play. Since the impeachment of Governor Sonko, the race to City Hall has attracted so many aspirants. There was a suggestion for Jubilee and Orange Democratic Party to field a joint candidate. This is due to the handshake between Jubilee party leader Uhuru Kenyatta and Orange Democratic Party leader Raila Odinga that has been in force since March 2018. Since the introduction of handshake and later BBI politics, there political bases have greatly shifted. This was witnessed in Msambweni by-election where a handshake candidate together with all the government machinery support was floored by an independent candidate who was supported by the deputy president William Ruto.
With the entrance of Dr Muguna Muguna into the race, the handshake team must go back to the drawing board before fielding a candidate to avoid the repeat of Msambweni in the capital City. Others who have declared interest includes Bishop Margaret Wanjiru, Former Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu, Dennis Waweru among many.
