Ivory Coast’s former head of state has rejected his first lady and filed a divorce case against her. This has happened three days after Koudou Gbagbo Laurent, the former president of Ivory Coast, landed in the country with a new wife from Hague. 
Gbagbo Laurent and Simone Laurent have been married since 1989 and are blessed with two gorgeous daughters. The two used to campaign together in the 1990s for the introductions of multi-party elections in Ivory Coast. With the help of his first lady, Laurent became the president of Ivory Coast in 2000 under the ticket of the Ivorian Political Front. 
Laurent remained in power from 2000 to 2011 where he was defeated in the 2010 general elections. Despite the defeat, it is claimed that his wife incited him not to accept the defeat. Following Laurent's denial of defeat, Ivory Coast experienced a post-election war which led to the death of over three thousand people. Laurent was sent to ICC in Hague, where he has been for almost a decade while his wife was sentenced to twenty years imprisonment for violating state security. 
However, she was released in 2018. On Monday, June 21, 2021, through his lawyer, Claude Mentenon, Laurent filed a divorce case at Abidjan's first instance court. This was after Simone refused to have a mutually agreed divorce. When Laurent was coming back to his country, he demanded that his wife Simone, should not welcome him. However, Simone ignored her husband and went to welcome him at the Abidjan International Airport: but he has shown no cavil. Rumor has it that the former head of state is in a relationship with a former journalist, Nady Bamba.
