Nandi: Vocal Senator Might Lose His Seat In August 2022 As His Opponent Beats Him In An opinion Poll

Vocal Nandi senator Samson Kiprotich Cherargei might lose his seat in August 2022 general election as his opponent, who is also Emgwen Member of Parliament Alex Kosgei beats him in the recent opinion poll.

This follows after Mizani Africa Research organization released the poll which showed that Cherargei would be trounced by Alex Kosgei with a margin of 6%. The MP's popularity is 36.2% while the senator followed with 30.2%.

Other senatorial aspirants who were included in the survey included politicians Vivian Cherono who had 17.4% and Elvis Tirey with 14%. Nontheless, 2.2% of the sampled residents were undecided.

This is a blow to Cherargei because he is planning to defend his seat so that he resumes his devolution oversight duties at the Senate. Despite him being an ardent defender of deputy president Dr William Ruto, he may be headed for a defeat.

The senator has never been in good terms with the incumbent governor Stephen Sang, despite the two campaigning and supporting one another in the run up 2017 general election. This is because the senator has been hard on the governor while seeking accountability on devolution matters.

He, together with other MPs including Alfred Keter (Nandi Hills), Vincent Tuwei (Mosop), Julius Meli (Tindiret), Dr Wilson Kogo (Chesumei) and Cornelli Serem (Aldai) have been taking a swipe at the county boss. They have accused him of failing to fight graft in the county government. The team has accused Sang of failing to listen to it after it advised him to sack all employees who had been implicated in alleged corruption in department of education.
