Lucy Gichuhi: Kenyan Accountant Who Was The First African To Be Elected In Australian Parliament

Her name is none other than Lucy Muringo Gichuhi . She was born in 1962 in Mathira constituency in Nyeri county, Kenya. She was once an Australian politician who served as a Senator for South Australia from 2017 to 2019 and hence the first African to be elected in the Australian parliament.Gichuhi worked as an accountant before entering politics. She originally sat in the Senate as an independent candidate after refusing to join the Family First Party .She then joined the Liberal Party in 2018, but failed to win re-election in 2019.
After graduating with a degree in accounting from University Of Nairobi, Gichuhi practiced with various auditing firms before moving to South Australia in 1999 with her husband and three children where she studied a Bachelor of Law from the University of South Australia. Prior to her appointment to the Senate, she was volunteering as a lawyer for the Women's Legal Service. Congratulations to her.
