Former defence Cabinet secretary Eugene Wamalwa was an iconic figure during Azimio la umoja one Kenya campaigns.
After the formation of DAP K as a political party, Eugene was endorsed as the overall patron of the party and former Kanduyi legislature Wafula Wamunyinyi as the chairman.
Wamunyinyi together with Esseli Simiyu, former Tongaren legislature defected from Ford Kenya after a failed take over of Ford Kenya chairmanship from Moses Wetangula.
Surprisingly, both DAP K officials failed to win in the previous General elections. Wanyinyi lost his Kanduyi seat and Esseli loosing Tongaren seat. Wamunyinyi returned in the race in a bid to replace Moses Wetangula as Bungoma Senetor but still lost to Ford Kenyas Wakoli.
In new developments, Wamunyinyi has lost his DAPK party Chairmanship to Eugene just days after he lost in Bungoma senatorial race. Wamunyinyi's political leadership journey remains in darkness as he has to wait for the next five years.
DAPK being a new political party, managed to win Trans Nzoia County Governor's race.
