Raila's Meru Visit Faced With Drama as Munya-Kiraitu Rivalry Takes Center Stage

The former prime minister, Raila Odinga, is currently in Meru county for the 'Azimio la Umoja' campaigns. The main aim of the campaigns is to preach unity of all Kenyans ahead of the 2022 general election.

Odinga commenced his tour at Maua town, where hundreds of residents turned out to welcome him. The ODM boss promised to look into the Miraa sector once elected to the high office.

However, a bit of drama was experienced when Governor Kiraitu Murungi was making his address. The governor introduced all the leaders but left out Agriculture Cabinet Secretary, Peter Munya, who was among the leaders accompanying Odinga.

This angered a section of the crowd and with no time, pro Munya chants rented the air. Placards of PNU party were also lifted by Munya supporters as a sign of the CS's influence in the county. PNU party is led by CS Munya and has made it clear that it will support Odinga for the top seat.

As this continued, another group started to chant Murungi's name and this brought the function to a temporary halt. It took the intervention of Laikipia governor, Ndiritu Muriithi, to calm the masses.

This seemed to be a deliberate move by Murungi who have been facing strong opposition from his predecessor. The two are set to face each other in the Meru gubernatorial seat come 2022.

After Maua town, Odinga then proceeded to Maili Tatu and is expected to make a major address at Meru town.
