Kenyans have for the first time learned why retired President Mwai Kibaki abandoned former Prime Minister Raila Odinga after it appeared likely that Kibaki would be endorsing Baba for the top seat following Raila's famous 'Kibaki Tosha' campaign that was key in sending the then President Daniel Moi home.
Raila had campaigned for Mwai Kibaki who was still nursing injuries after a nasty accident and many Kenyans hoped that as a gesture of appreciation, Kibaki would be endorsing Baba who was the then leader of the Pentagon to succeed him.
Kibaki would however disappoint supporters allied to the Former Prime Minister as he ended up endorsing Uhuru Kenyatta to run for the Presidential seat.
Media Mogul SK Macharia, who is a close ally to Raila Odinga has revealed his behind closed doors meeting with Kibaki who expressed to him that he had to stick with Uhuru Kenyatta because of the trouble he had at the ICC.
"We sat down with Kibaki, he told me - 'since you're the one who brought and advocated for Raila, and you convinced him so that we might work together (and form a coalition) and since we ran together with him (Raila in 2002) stick with him. For me, my young man Uhuru is in trouble with the ICC and I cannot leave him behind, go and tell Raila that' Muthaura was with me.No one believed that SK supported Raila and left Uhuru, now you know why," the billionaire stated.
