Video: Big Guns Troop to Mumias Ahead of Malala's Official Campaign Launch

The sleepy town of Mumias at the heart of the Western sugar belt has today been awaken by deafening noise from chopper engines that flew in notable figures in the Kenya Kwanza coalition and western region politicians who will grace senator Cleophas Malala's official launch of his gubernatorial bid at Mumias Sports Complex.

As at now, Amani National Congress party leader Musalia Mudavadi, Ford Kenya's Moses Masika Wetangula, Senate speaker Kenneth Lusaka, Trans Nzoia governor Patrick Khaemba among others have touched down at the town ready for Malala's big moment.

Today Malala together with his deputy designate, Dr. Beatrice Inyangala are expected to outline their manifesto for Kakamega County residents and also receive final blessings of the region's kingpins before embarking on the campaign trail.

The event will also mark the onset of Malala's titanic battle with Fernandez Barasa of ODM who already has the blessings of outgoing governor Wycliffe Oparanya.

The moment will also be historic for Malala who is writing his own unique political progress paper where he has been holding an elective post for a term and scaling higher.

In 2013, the reknown playwright joined elective politics when he was elected to represent Mahiakalo Ward in Lurambi constituency on an ODM party ticket, in 2017 he sought sponsorship of the Mudavadi led ANC party and succeeded Bonny Khalwale as second Kakamega governor.

Meanwhile, Malala's choice of Mumias at the expense of more strategic Bukhungu stadium in Kakamega town has been a subject of debate with his bad blood with Oparanya taking xento stage.
