Deputy President William Samoei Ruto is the party leader of United Democratic Alliance party and the presidential flagbearer in the giant Kenya Kwanza Alliance. KKA brings on board about twelve political parties key among them being Ruto's UDA, ANC under former Deputy Prime Minister Wycliffe Musalia Mudavadi and Ford Kenya under Bungoma senator Moses Masika Wetangula.
With clock hastily ticking towards the deadline of nomination of running mates by the presidential contenders, reports have emerged that both Azimio-OKA and Kenya Kwanza Alliance seem to be betweena rock and a hard place as far as the above choices are concerned.
Kenya Kwanza has been rocked with fresh stalemate over the choice of Ruto's running mate as Mudavadi's allies now issues a fresh demand to the Deputy President. They are opining that Ruto is free to choose anyone as his running mate save for Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua. This irreducible minimum by ANC party poses a great challenge to Ruto as Gachagua is equally among the notable figures speculated to be highly poised for the slot.
This comes after Gachagua's bold take that the second in Command's slot within Kenya Kwańza is undoubtedly a Mount Kenya preserve, something that didn't auger well with quarters allied to Mudavadi.
Secondly, a push and pull has equally emerged within Mount Kenya region on which axis of the Mountain should be considered for the Deputy President William Ruto's running mate slot. This internal squabbles seems to be pitting Tharaka-Nithi Senator Kithure Kindiki and Speaker of the National Assembly Justin Muturi on the other hand against Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua, Kirinyaga governor Ann Mumbi Waiguru, Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro and Kandara MP Alice Wahome on the other hand.
Muturi and Kindiki hails from Mount Kenya East with the rest are coming from the Western side of the mountain. It is unclear how Ruto will swiftly act to quell this silent but coarsy encounter within the Mount Kenya top guns.
Kenyans are interestingly and eagerly waiting to see from which side of the vast and vote-rich Mount Kenya will William Ruto cast his running mate's net should he opt to settle on one from the region.
