Focus On National Politics, Oparanya Tells A Popular ODM Senator

At the grassroot and county politics,the gubernatorial seat is the most contested one. This year,some of the popular governors are serving their last term. This list includes;Ali Hassan Joho (Mombasa), Zacharia Okoth Obado(Migori), Wycliffe Oparanya (Kakamega), Kivutha Kibwana (Makueni), Alfred Mutua (Machakos), Cyprian Awiti(Homabay) and Cornel Rasange(Siaya)

Reports have had it that most senators working together with these governors are eyeing to be the governors come 2022. Those senators who stand high chances of becoming governors in the next polls include; Mutula Kilonzo Jr, Cleophas Malala, Ochillo Ayacko and Senior Counsel James Orengo.

In line with this, Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya has told Senator Orengo to shelve his ambition of becoming Siaya next governor and instead focus on national politics. According to reports by the Star newspaper, Hon Oparanya said that Senator Orengo should concentrate on supporting ODM leader Raila Odinga at the national level to help him achieve his dream of succeeding President Uhuru Kenyatta by winning the presidential elections next year. "We need his political skills and knowledge of national politics which is very crucial to us in the next year's general elections." Hon Oparanya said.

While speaking to a radio station in Kisumu county, Hon Oparanya said that personal interests might be the main reason why Senator Orengo might decide to go for the gubernatorial seat. However, according to him Orengo is better being a senator that going for local politics by being a governor. " I have told Orengo and it is on record that he is better off being a senator at national level. But as you know, politics is about personal interest." Governor Oparanya said.
