Muturi's After Coronation Party Cut Shot as Mount Kenyans Accuse Him of Misusing Kikuyu Culture

A section of Kenyans from Mount Kenya have taken it to social media to deny and condemn the just completed coronation of National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi as their chief spokesperson.

Replying to Nation Africa's Facebook post of Muturi's coronation, many Kenyans especially those from Central Kenya accused the Speaker of misusing the Kikuyu culture. According to them, the exercise was personal and Mt Kenya voters will make their political decisions independently without being dictated upon by any 'unrecognized' chief come 2022.

Most of them alleged that Muturi is unpopular in the region and cannot even manage to rally a quarter of citizens from his constituency to rally behind him.

Others claimed that Mt Kenya has not had spokespersons in the past and this will remain to be. Moreso, no other national political leader from the region was present during the coronation exercise.

They accused him of portraying low leadership standards in that, as the speaker of the national assembly, he should have maintained a national political outlook rather than belittle himself into a mere tribal chief.

Though not clear wheather president Kenyatta is behind Muturi's activities or not, the incident seems to have divided the region even more and Muturi may regret declaring himself king for his entire political life.

When a country is hurtling towards it's destruction, integrity and merit are sacrificed at the altar of atavistic ethnic jingoism camouflaged through processes that are carefully choreographed to hoodwink the common observers. Politicians will always have their greedy ambitions, but noble patriots should never bow down to tribal kingpins but choose those who have the interests of citizens at heart.
