In Kenya, the race for political seats is always so competitive. This has seen some political leaders serve for only one term and then they lose and their political journey stops just like that. We also have politicians who have tried running for different seats bub they have constantly failed and given up even before they come into the limelight. Did you know that we also have political leaders who have never lost since they ran for political seats up to now?
One of the people in this list is outgoing Meru governor Kiraitu Murungi. He holds the record for being the only Kenyan leader who has contested in six consecutive elections and won all of them. To make it more interesting, in each election Murungi has contested in, he has been using different parties but still emerging victorious. He is also among the few political leaders who have served as MP, governor and senator. Before his debut into politics, Murungi who holds two masters degree in Law practiced law for a period of ten years. He also served as the lawyer to Late President Daniel Arap Moi.
In 1992 Murungi joined electoral politics and won the Imenti South seat on Ford Kenya ticket. He was re-elected in 1997 on a NARC ticket, and 2007 on a PNU ticket. He later formed the APK popular known as the "Mbus party" which he used to contest for senate seat successfully in 2013.In the 2017 general elections,he was elected the Meru governor on a Jubilee Ticket, defeating the incumbent Peter Munya and became the second governor of Meru county since its inception. In this year's elections, Murungi defended his seat using the Mbus Party. He however lost to Woman Rep Kawira Mwangaza who was running as an independent candidate. Murungi became third after Senator Mithika Linturi who was second. This means that his record of never losing in an election has been broken by a lady.
