CJ Martha Koome to UDA: I’m no longer leaving election preparedness committee.

Chief Justice Martha Koome has faulted the United Democratic Alliance for asking her to surrender from the Technical Working Committee for Election Preparedness.

The CJ, who spoke in the course of the Annual Devolution Conference in Makueni County on Thursday, November 25, said the committee isn't always made from politicians who could compromise Judicial independence.

“I met an intergovernmental committee on election preparedness [on Tuesday], and I become attacked for holding the meeting. [Let’s understand that] the Judiciary can not deliver justice on its personal,” she said.

The Chief Justice said her role within the election preparedness committee does now not, in any way, affect justice dispensation, specially on subjects elections.

In a letter addressed to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) chairperson Wafula Chebukati, UDA Secretary-General Veronica Maina stated Koome’s role inside the committee created a case of battle of hobby, for the reason that CJ is constitutionally required to act as an arbiter in election disputes.

UDA advised Koome to “henceforth forestall, abandon, desist, chorus, and stop collaborating in the sports of the committee”.
