Warming Up To Power: Ngirici Joins President Uhuru At Kiganjo Passing Out Parade

Kirinyagah Woman Representative Purity Wangui Ngirici on Thursday joined President Uhuru Kenyatta at the National Police College Main Campus Kiganjo in Nyeri County.

The president was presiding over the passing out parade of 298 direct entry inspectorate cadet officers. This was also the first time that Ngirici who in the past was a staunch UDA Party sympathizer was seen in a public function officiated by the president.

Since she fell out with UDA, Ngirici has been appealing to voters to weigh individual merits and not party affiliation. This has spurred speculation that she could vie in the Kirinyagah gubernatorial race on an independent ticket.

Ngirici's billionaire husband Andrew recently reconciled with Interior PS Dr. Karanja Kibicho who at one time was thought to be interested in the Governors seat. With Kibicho now backing Ngirici her camp is seen to be more formidable and better organized.

If the race for Kirinyagah Governor was directly between Ngirici and Waiguru the outcome would be easily predictable. But now that NARC-KENYA leader Martha Karua has indicated that she will be vying the arithmetic becomes tricky.

"I will be vying against Purity Ngirici," Karua recently responded to a journalist, adding "I don't consider Waiguru as a credible candidate because, to begin with, she never won the 2017 Kirinyagah gubernatorial race."

Before decamping to UDA, Waiguru enjoyed a lot of goodwill from President Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Amollo Odinga. Perhaps this goodwill is what Ngirici is now warming up to.
