On Monday, December 5, President William Ruto met with Eric Theuri of the Law Society of Kenya (LSK), who had sued him over the nomination of principal secretaries. In his remarks at the launch of the 2021–2022 Administration of Justice in Kenya Annual Report, Ruto applauded Theuri for his decision to sue him and emphasized that no one was above the law.
Ruto mocked the LSK leader for losing the case, but he made the point that he would have accepted a decision that the nomination was illegal. Additionally, Ruto thanked the LSK leader for not threatening to call protests if he lost the case.
The leader of the country also addressed critics who questioned his close friendship with Chief Justice (CJ) Martha Koome. In keeping with his duty to uphold the rule of law and defend the constitution, he insisted that he is merely providing assistance to the courts. Ruto claims he has never called to request the judiciary take any action.
In other words, the head of state only supports the judiciary to the extent necessary for it to effectively administer justice to Kenyan citizens.
