Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission of Kenya (IEBC) is a government body that is mandated to conduct the electoral process in the country such as voter registration, setting up polling stations and announcing the results during the general and by elections. The commission is under the leadership of Wafula Chebukati who is the Chairman.
In the recent days, various lawmakers have been on the forefront criticizing the iebc as not eligible to conduct the next general election scheduled to take place in 2022. The lawmakers want the iebc chairman together with his team to vacate the office.
Nambale area Member of Parliament Hon. Sakwa Bunyasi has greatly opposed the plans of some leaders who are poking their noses to the IEBC Commission. Sakwa has defended the iebc chairman Wafula Chebukati citing that he should be respected as the commission is independent and no one has the right to interfere with it's performance.
Hon. Sakwa was speaking at Buyofu area when he had attended a church function. He said the commission is the only mandated body to conduct electoral process and therefore the leaders should shun attacking and criticizing the commission as this can compromise the results of the general elections.
This comes barely two weeks since the BBI Report task force Committee presented over 4.4 million signatures to the IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati for verification process before the referendum is held.
