The Independent Electoral And Boundaries Commission has issued tough conditions to all politicians seeking elective seats in the year 2022 among them Deputy President William Ruto who is seeking the Presidential seat, Wiper Party Leader Kalonzo Musyoka [Presidency], Amani National Congress Party Leader Musalia Mudavadi[Presidency] among others.
According to the commission they have maintained that from December 9th this year no leader will be expected to attend a fundraiser or a Harambee with the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission Chair Wafula Chebukati informing that any leader who will be caught shall be answerable to the law.
"The commission has maintained that politicians seeking elective seats in 2022 will be barred from participating in fundraising, commonly known as harambees, from December 9. Chebukati said those who engage in Harambee after the legal deadline shall have committed an election offense punishable under the law," read the report from the Star.
or has been established that the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission has partnered with the Office of the Directorate of Public Prosecution which is chaired by George Kinoti to ensure that offenders are punished and that they will not be spared.
"The commission already has partnered with the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions to press charges against the offenders," read the report.
The orders by the IEBC come after their recent move where they withdrew from the Commission on the Election Preparedness led by Chief Justice Martha Koome informing that they have chosen to walk alone as an independent body.
