Nandi Senator Kiprotich Arap Cherargei has warned state agencies and officers including the Central Bank of Kenya to stop responding the second in command Rigathi Gachagua's utterances through social media and media pressers claiming that it portrays bad ethics to the number two in power.
"To all state agencies/officers i.e CBK stop responding to our DP Gachagua through social media/media/pressers it's bad manners/ethics. They are better channels to communicate on government issues and it's about respect to the office" he tweeted.
This comes a time when Gachagua claimed that there existed a forex problem because of state capture adding that very senior people in the government own certain banks. He said the aforesaid senior state officials involve in forex business dethroning the Central Bank of Kenya. He said that on Saturday, the country had a crisis because the Central Bank of Kenya did not have enough foreign currency for oil imports.
In a joint rebuttal, CBK stated that Oil importers obtain foreign exchange from Commercial Bank and not CBK as claimed by Gachagua.
CBK governor Patrick Njoroge added that CBK foreign exchange cover remains adequate. Mr Njoroge informed that the reserves continue to provide adequate cover and a buffer against shock in the forex market.
