Sad news in Kenya Kwanza camp as Moses Kuria, Musalia Mudavadi, Alfred Mutua and other key leaders nominated by Dr. William Samoei Ruto are set to quit from their respective parties. Following the naming of Ruto's Cabinet Secretaries (CS), leaders of affiliate parties forming Kenya Kwanza Alliance were nominated.
According to Kenya's 2010 constitution, CS and other executive officials appointed by the president cannot hold political office in any party. This implies that the five party leaders will have to quit from their parties before taking oath of office.
The constitutional law is set to affect Moses Kuria's Chama Cha Kazi, Alfred Mutua's Maendeleo Chap Chap, Justin Muturi of Democratic Party, Eliud Owalo of United Democratic Alliance and also Musalia Mudavadi of Amani National Congress.
“A full-time state officer shall not participate in any other gainful employment. Any appointed State officer shall not hold office in a political party,” reads in parts Article 77 (1, 2) of the 2010 Constitution.
Musalia Mudavadi was nominated as Chief CS, Eliud Owalo as IT CS, Justin Muturi will be the Attorney-General, Alfred Mutua as Foreign Affairs CS while Moses Kuria nominated as Trade and Industry CS.
