Raila Speaks Out, Explains Who Was to be Endorsed For President Before he Was Picked

ODM leader Raila Odinga has opened up on some of the happenings that took place prior to him making known his 2022 presidential ambitions.

The leader has since kicked off his campaigns as he seeks to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta, who is on his way out after serving for two terms.

On Friday, he said that initially, there was plans by the President Uhuru Kenyatta corner to endorse Interior CS Fred Matiang'i, before plans were changed.

He said that Matiang'i personally decided to make a U-turn on seeking the top seat, and told him to go ahead and that he would back him instead.

"There was one time I said I was ready to support him but when we looked into the forest he told my to go into the forest first," he said in Nyamira County.

The leader, who the CS confirmed has Uhuru's support, stated that it is at this moment that it was decided that he goes for the seat as others back him.

Matiang'i also confirmed Raila's remarks that he has agreed to step down for him, saying that indeed he has decided to rally behind his bid.

He further assured the former Prime Minister of the support of Kenyans in his presidential bid, saying that majority of Kenyans are ready to support him.

"Majority of our people are where the President and Raila are. I have also decided to stick to where they are," said the powerful cabinet minister.

Raila was also endorsed by CSs Mutahi Kagwe (Health) and Eugene Wamalwa (Defence) who were also in attendance.
