The Central Kenya region is on the overdrive for President Kenyatta’s successor at the end of his tenure. They have promised that they will not leave a leadership vacuum in the region. In Nyeri County, leaders who are allied to the Uhuru have slammed the political posturing of camps and factions that are already cropping up in Central Kenya region. They have said that dividing the region will only weaken the numerical strength ahead of the 2022 race.
It is now clear that Uhuru succession jitters has taken shape in the Mount Kenya region. Earlier some Meru leaders have fronted governor Kiraitu Murungi to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta. In his remarks Kiraitu claimed that after Uhuru Kenyatta they wish not to hear another candidate from that region. Linturi on his part said that they have been used for a very long time to be kingmakers but it is now time for them to take the seat. However, a section of Mount Kenya leaders who are allied to President Uhuru Kenyatta have called for unity of purpose within the Central Kenya vote bloc. These leaders fired a warning shot to all factions and camps that risking dividing their votes. DP Ruto allies from the region stated that the Hustler kingpin has opened negotiations to address the needs of the people in the region.
The coronation of Justin Muturi had already stirred the region and now another kingmaker has declared his interest to succeed Uhuru. Although Kanini Kega at one time claimed that all leaders who wish to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta should come out clearly and express their ambitions but things seem to get even tougher.
Kiraitu Murungi claimed that he thinks it will be unfair and greedy for leaders from the Mount Kenya West to imagine they can field another presidential candidate after they religiously supported President Uhuru Kenyatta and Mwai Kibaki. Businessman Jimi Wanjigi has now joined the race to succeed Mr. Kenyatta in the 2022 race. The silent kingmaker believes that he is too fit to take over from Uhuru Kenyatta.
