Not Peter Munya, Raila Told Who To Pick For Running Mate From Mt Kenya As DP Ruto Bets on Musalia

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader Raila Odinga was conditioned to pick a running mate from Mt Kenya region for 2022 presidential pact.

Raila was on Monday, 24th January, hosted by a battery of leaders from Murang'a County at a Hotel in Thika town where they drew a simultaneous campaign road map that will secure votes for Raila Odinga's presidency.

The leaders pleaded with the former prime minister Raila Odinga to consider picking a running mate from Murang'a county in return for their unwavering base support on 9th August election.

The high government officials present (Transport Cabinet Secretary James Macharia, Jubilee Vice Chairman David Murathe, Water PS Joseph Irungu, Mt Kenya Foundation Chairman Peter Munga, Royal Media Services Mogul SK Macharia, former Murang'a senator Kembi Gitura, Nominated MP Maina Kamanda, Murang'a Women Representative Sabina Chege, Former Gatanga MP Peter Kenneth, Gatanga MP Ngugi Nduati, Kigumo MP Ruth Mwaniki and Kangema MP Muturi Kigano) proposed Peter Kenneth to be Raila's running mate in next general election.

Kangema MP Muturi Kigano argued that Murang'a leaders would appreciate if the Raila would endorse Peter Kenneth (Murang'a) as his deputy in the next year's race.

"It would be very appropriate if we get the deputy from Murang'a, and more precisely, Peter Kenneth, in return of the support we give you in next election" MP said.

Kamanda on the other hand, lamented that Kiambu and Nyeri counties had produced the country's heads (Uhuru and Kibaki) and it was time for Murang'a county to inch towards presidency by getting a deputy President.

"Kiambu and Nyeri have produced presidents but Murang'a is yet to have one. If you can give us a deputy President, then we shall be sure of getting close to presidency. We shall go around the region to sell the agenda of Azimio la Umoja and anyone who wouldn't have joined will lose terribly" Kamanda noted.

If Raila will go with the MP views to get a running mate from Murang'a County, then the Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Peter Munya, who has been the correct bet for various political pundits, would have been excluded from the presidential pact.

This emerges after Deputy President William Ruto signed a UDA and ANC merger deal that seeks to secure the presidency in 2022 election. However, DP Ruto might be forced to abandon his previous alleged plans to get a running mate from Mt Kenya region and settle on Musalia Mudavadi based on his (Mudavadi) political muscle in the Kenyan politics.
