Members of the national assembly Elected former Bungoma senator Moses wetangula as their new speaker who took over the outgoing Justin Muturi.
Wetangula Defeated former speaker Kenneth Marende fronted by azimio la umoja one Kenya coalition by garnering 214 votes against 130 for Marende who had to withdraw to avoid a second Round.
Earlier on, there was controversy over his resignation from the senate having been elected as the senator for Bungoma.
However, the clerk of the assembly gave proof that indeed Wetangula had tendered his resignation letter hence was legible to contest.
Salaries and other benefits.
According to salaries and remuneration commission, the incoming speaker who is now the third most powerful man in the land will be entitled to a gross salary of KSH 1,160,000 per month.
Other benefits entitled to him include: 24 hour security protection which shall be determined by the inspector general of Police, A personal car loan of KSH 10 million, A mortgage of up to KSH 40 Million and Airtime allowance of KSH 25000.
Upon completion of his term, the ford Kenya party leader will be entitled to hefty benefits as will be determined by the salaries and remuneration commission
