Shortchanged? Wiper Submits Name of Sonko as Mbogo's Running Mate in The Mombasa Gubernatorial Race

Details have emerged that Wiper Democratic Party may have shortchanged Mike Sonko after submitting the name of Kisauni MP, Ali Mbogo, as its candidate for the Mombasa county gubernatorial position while nominating Ex-governor as his running mate.

In a report via The Star, Wiper made the submission on June 24 after the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Dispute Resolution Committee ordered the party to submit a candidate within 72 hours after disqualifying Sonko.

The commission disqualified Sonko's candidature on the ground that he had been previously impeached from the office of the governor of Nairobi county. According to the IEBC chairman, Wafula Chebukati, the constitution of Kenya bars any leader previously impeached from public office from seeking any elective position.

Sonko has been battling with the commission in the corridors of court claiming that he can still vie as he hasn't exhausted all avenues of Appeal as stipulated in the constitution.

Wiper Party leader, Kalonzo Musyoka, has also been on the forefront defending the Ex-governor whom he claims has not committed any crime against humanity and still have pending cases.
