Kenya African National Union (KANU) Women Congress wing has now mocked Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) chairperson Wafula Chebukati as it branded him as Kenya Kwanza government's hero after 2022 general election.
In a scoffing tweet on Tuesday, the Congress noted that Chebukati was a person of praise in the ruling coalition. It mockingly acknowledged that the electoral body chairman was feted with an award by president Dr William Ruto during yesterday's Jamuhuri Day because of being loyal to the government during the recent election. "Kenya Kwanza hero Wafula Chebukati awarded the Elder of the Order of the Golden Heart (EGH). Loyalty pays," read the tweet.
This comes a day after Chebukati was awarded Elder of the Order of the Golden Heart by president Ruto on Jamuhuri Day at Nyayo stadium, Nairobi.
The Head of State recognized Chebukati's positive efforts when he stood his grounds and did things right during the tallying, verification announcement of presidential election results at Bomas of Kenya on August 15th.
Chebukati joined a list of other men and women, among them Ugunja Member of Parliament Opiyo Wandayi, his Kiharu counterpart Ndindi Nyoro and Uasin Gishu Women Representative Gladys Shollei who received the same award. The same awards are normally issued annually during Jamuhuri Day.
However, the award of the IEBC chairman sparked mixed reactions amongst Kenyans, most of who felt disaffected with his actions during the recent general election. Nontheless, Kenyans who rallied behind Dr Ruto in 2022 have showered accolades to the Head of State for the generous gesture to Chebukati.
