The race to succeed the outgoing Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho is now getting tougher, as Joho's preferred successor, the MP for Mvita Abdulswamad sheriff Nassir is shown the dust by the newest entrant former Nairobi Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko.
In an opinion polls survey conducted by the Mizani Africa, Sonko takes the lead with a total of 34.6 per cent, followed by Sheriff Nassir with 27.1 per cent.
Former Mombasa senator Hassan Omar who is vying for the seat through the Wiper party ticket has come third with 26.3 per cent.
However, 11 per cent of the voters in Mombasa have not yet made a decision on whom they would vote for if the Elections were held today.
However, Sonko's Quest to succeed Joho is still hanging on the balance, as he is now awaiting the outcome of a petition filed in court over his eligibility to vie for the seat, since he was Impeached by the Nairobi County Assembly.
