In Kenya, general elections are held in every five years and there are six elective posts which include the Presidential post, Gubernatorial post, Senatorial post, post of the Women Representative, Member of Parliament and Member of County Assembly commonly known as the MCA. In Machakos county, the race to succeed the outgoing governor Dr. Alfred Mutua is tightening up as many people have started to show their interests in the seat.
In Machakos, there are two political parties which have strong support from the residents and these parties are Wiper Party of Kalonzo Musyoka and Maendeleo Chap Chap of the outgoing governor Dr. Alfred Mutua. The seat has attracted the likes of Mwala MP Vincent Musau, Mavoko MP Patrick Makau and the former Machakos county Deputy Governor Bernard Kiala. Despite the increased number of aspirants, the race will be between Wiper Party and Maendeleo Chap Chap party.
As the race starts to heat up, there is one person who will bring more competition in the race because of her popularity and gender. The former Kathiani Member of Parliament and Chief Administrative Secretary Wavinya Ndeti has the potential of winning the race in 2022 due to her influence and gender. If she declares her candidature, she will be the only woman in the race which will give her an upper hand in the race.
