It has been disclosed that the former Cabinet Secretary in charge of the Ministry of Agriculture CS Mwangi Kiunjuri has the highestt stakes of becoming deputy president William Ruto's running mate in 2022.
According to the Star newspaper, Tuesday's publication, The Service Party (TSP) party leader has in the recent days rose to a point of making the deputy president entrust him with his campaigns.
The former Member of president Uhuru Kenyatta's Cabinet has been seen attending several meetings of the deputy president where he has drummed up support for the second in command.
However, the greatest challenge is that DP Ruto had indicated that he would have nominated a woman to be his running mate a while ago which decreases Mwangi Kiunjuri's chances abit.
This comes at a time when several other leaders were thought to be angling themselves towards the recognition of the deputy president William Ruto in order to be chosen.
Among those who had been thought to be the best running mates before the infamous handshake between president Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Amollo Odinga include;
1. Kirinyaga county governor Anne Mumbi Waiguru 2.Former Cabinet Minister Martha Wangari Karua 3. Peter Kenneth, former Gatanga Member of Parliament 4.Tharaka Nithi county senator Kindiki Kithure 5.Former Kiambu county governor William Kabogo 6. Murang'a county Governor Mwangi Wa Iria and 7. Former Meru governor and the current agriculture CS Peter Munya.
However, the coming of the handshake has distanced the deputy president William Ruto from all of the above apart from Mwangi Kiunjuri. It is good to note that is the only one out of government currently which gives him smoke time to campaign for Ruto.
