Bungoma: Vocal UDA MP Defies Ruto And Campaigns For Wetangula's Ally In Upcoming Senate By-election

Vocal United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Member of Parliament Didmus Barasa has defied president president Dr William Ruto and campaigned for National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula's ally Wafula Wakoli in the upcoming Senate By-election.

In a show of might on Sunday, Barasa massively mobilized a rally in Mt Elgon constituency, where he drummed up support for Wakoli as the latter seeks to succeed Moses Wetangula as the next Bungoma senator.

The Kimilili lawmaker alongside the senatorial aspirant toured Kapsokwony and the greater part of Mt Elgon, where they canvassed for votes in readiness for the minipoll.

In his social media handles, Barasa expressed gratitude to the people of the aforementioned areas for giving them an opportunity to air out their campaign pledges and, accepting to support them in the by-election.

"Thank you the great people of Mt Elgon, Kapsokwony for agreeing to walk and support Hon David Wafula Wakoli for Senator, Bungoma County!" Said Barasa.

This comes weeks after Barasa argued that he was not going to throw weight behind former Bumula Member of Parliament Mwambu Mabonga, who is also running for the seat on UDA ticket. Also, it happens after the Kimilili MP called on Bungoma residents to reject Mabonga and ex-Kanduyi legislator Wafula Wamunyinyi of Democratic Action Party Kenya in the minipoll.

According to the UDA lawmaker, Mabonga and Wamunyinyi had been rejected by their respective constituents in 2022 general polls while they were seeking re-election.

A duel amongst Kenya Kwanza movement parties is set to be witnessed in the by-election, since FORD-Kenya and UDA will be facing off.
