The Azimio coalition claimed that Juliana Cherera and Justus Nyang'aya did not resign voluntarily a day after they did. Cherera was the vice chair of the IEBC. The two commissioners' resignation occurs as they are being questioned with the intention of having them removed from office.
According to an allegation by the Azimio alliance, someone has been pressuring them to quit so that commissioners who support the government can be chosen in time for the general elections in 2027. William Ruto has been identified as the gang leader in those calling for the resignation of the commissioners by Azimio's second in command, Martha Karua.
