Running away with money meant for the sick is actually one of the most saddening forms of corruption. Its hard to imagine how someone enjoys money meant for the sick.People actually lose lives because of lack of medicine and hospital equipments. To people who are involved in such acts, shame on you.
Now to the main story. Some officials from the Siaya county government have managed to get away with money meant for buying ICU equipments. The county government of Siaya had opened an ICU facility to help it's people but things did not go as planned. The only equipments available at the hospital are ventilators that were donated by Kijabe hospital.
The money is said be about 72 million. The operation was done during the transition period of the incoming government.Officials went into the county coffers and awarded themselves with huge sums of money before leaving. The then acting governor James Orengo had given oders to stop any payments or withdrawal of money by the county but his directives landed on deaf ears.
Governor Orengo has to make sure the money is found so that the equipments can be bought. If not the people of Siaya will suffer.EACC is investigating those who might have been involved in the case and we hope that justice will be done.
