Earlier today, it was revealed that Kirinyaga governor Ann Waiguru defected United Democratic Alliance party which has been linked to the deputy president. This is after earlier hinting to join hustlers after being backed by Kirinyaga residents. She hinted joining Ruto after the ruined relationship with Jubilee party which she used to be a member.
Joining UDA would have given the governor the opportunity of being Ruto's running mate in the 2022 general elections. This is because the deputy president had not selected a running mate yet and may have considered her as his best shot in winning 2022 polls. Also, UDA has plans of fielding Kirinyaga women representative Ngirici in the 2022 gubernatorial race and therefore the current governor would not gave a chance.
Defecting UDA has put the governor in a critical position as the chances she had in the next government sink with her. She has however states that she is capable of running independently for any seat in government be it deputy president or president position.
