Machakos Senatorial By-election Heats Up After UDA And Wiper Parties Unveil Their Candidates.

Published 10 days ago - 0 views

Machakos Senatorial By-election will be held on 4th March, 2021 after the death of Senator Bonface Mutinda Kabaka due to Covid-19 complications.

Many aspirants have made clear their aspirations to fill up the position. Alfred Mutua's party, Maendeleo Chap Chap had unveiled former water cabinet minister John Katuku.

The late Senator was from Wiper party and Kalonzo Musyoka’s Wiper party recently unveiled Ms Agnes Kavindu, 64 as its candidate for the upcoming senatorial by-election in Machakos. Kavindu is UDA chairman's (former Machakos Senator, Johnstone Muthama) ex-wife. President Uhuru Kenyatta picked Kavindu as a member of the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) taskforce.

On the other hand, United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party through its interim chairman, Johnstone Muthama has picked businessman Urbanus Ngengele to vie for Machakos Senatorial seat after the sixteen interested candidates went head on in the nomination stage.

It will be a three horse race between UDA's Urbanus Ngengele, Wiper's Agnes Kavindu and Chama Cha Mashinani's John Katuku. Jubilee and ODM have abstained from the by-election stating that it will back up Wiper party's candidate.
