CS Moses Kuria Informed What Is Currently Happening After His Stern Warning To Farmers

Trade and Investment Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria today issued a stern warning to Kenyan farmers. In his statement he gave the farmers an ultimatum of 72 hours or three days to release the maize they are hoarding. Kuria said that if that will not happen then the government might be forced to import maize from outside so that they can help Kenyans who are already dying of hunger. He said that as Kenyans wait for the decision that will be made by the Parliament concerning the importation of GMO maize, the farmers in the country should have the goodwill to release maize that is being hoarded.

However, Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei who was one of the UDA politicians who had earlier protested against the move to import cheap maize has asked Kenyans to be patient as farmers continue harvesting the maize from the farms. Taking to his twitter handle he said, We are currently harvesting maize in the North Rift we are not hoarding or hiding maize. Kenyans be patient as we harvest and deliver to the market. Next week His Excellency Ruto cabinet shall meet to provide wayforward on the matter as cessation of duty free maize importation continues."
