In 2019, the Deputy President of Kenya Mr. William Samoei Ruto made a complaint to the Director of Criminal Investigations that his life was in danger following a meeting that was attended by three government officials including a powerful cabinet secretary.
According to reports, the meeting happened at the LA Mada hotel with Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Peter Munya in attendance. Following the allegations, The CS at that time denied recording any statement on the allegations saying that the complainant had not filed any complaint at the DCI.
Three years down the line, the Agricultural Cabinet Secretary has revealed that he recorded his statement contrary to his earlier statements. Speaking during an interview with NTV Kenya, Munya denied the reports that he was part of the group that was plotting the eradication of Ruto.
According to Itumbi, the said powerful Cabinet Secretary had promised during the LA Mada meeting to 'stop the Deputy President' just like they 'stopped Saitoti' months to a general election.
"CS @PeterMunya now CONFESSES he RECORDED a Statement on the La Mada Meeting. CONTRADICTING what he said in 2019 - that he DID NOT record any. For the RECORD, a powerful PS told the meeting they would stop DP @WilliamsRuto "...just like Saitoti" - The TRUTH cannot be HIDDEN!" Itumbi wrote on Twitter
Back in 2019, Itumbi was arrested and presented in court where he claimed to be in possession of video evidence on the said meeting where the group was discussing the plot to Assassinate Ruto. The court however did not allow the video to be played in court due to the level of the allegations.
It now remains to be seen what will happen next.
